How to win a seat at the WSOP for $100 (or less)

1. Open a pokerstars account and deposit $100.

Pokerstars is the best way to qualify for the WSOP and it is in my opinion the best online poker site. However, there are many other poker sites which offer deposit bonuses up to or exceeding $100. and if you can grind it out playing break even or better poker long enough to clear a bonus you could make the $100 for free there. Transfer it into pokerstars and you are ready to go.

2. Go to this website and save the CMB logo to your computer.

Look for the CMB Logo link on the left side of the page, save it, and then under the Account menu on the Pokerstars Main Lobby choose "Select/Change Image" and put the Cashmanbrian.com logo there. Then email the cashmanbrian guy to tell him you have his logo. His email address is on the "Contact Me" portion of his website. This will allow you entry into a couple of freerolls (check his website) and will be important later also. It will also make you a whore for his website but who really cares? You are probably a whore anyway.

3. Turn the $100 into $174.

How? Well there's all sort of ways to take advatage of bad players. But I know the most about 1 way in particular. By playing some low-limit turbo NL Hold Em sit n gos (SNGs). Choose Sit & Go from the main Pokerstars menu and select the turbo filter. There are several limits, from $525+40 all the way down to $3 + .40. I'm going to suggest you play no higher than a limit 1/5th of your bankroll. Assuming you deposited $100 then 1/5 of that is $20. The highest limit below that is 15+1. That's the highest limit I recommend playing until you get to be a pretty darn good SNG player. You will learn how to do that playing the low limit SNGs in step 4.

4. Become a good SNG player.

Follow this link. It tells you all about how to beat the low limit SNGs. You need to know this stuff to get to the WSOP using this list. You will need to expand on it greatly to do well in the WSOP, but you might as well start here.

5. Drop in limits if you lose.

If you drop below the 1/5 bankroll limit then move down in limits. This means if you have less than $80 then the highest limit you should play is the $6+.50s. If you have less than $32.50 then move down to the $3+.40s. If you have to move down it doesn't mean you are a bad player. The best players can go 10-20 SNGs without finishing in the money. Variance can be huge. You don't get a good idea of where you are until you have stats for 100s of SNGs at a buy-in. So don't despair. Just suck it up, evalute your play to make sure you are playing well and play the lower limits if you lose. If you are good enough for the high limits you will be back there soon. If you bust out, make sure you are playing by the guide in Step 4, feel sorry for yourself, and go back to Step 1.

6. I got my $174, now what?

Now purchase some W$ at cashmanbrian.com. You should be a preferred member because you have his logo as your Pokerstars avatar and emailed him earlier. For $74 you can buy 80 W$ as a preferred member. W$ can be used to enter satellite tournaments to the world series among other things. There is no reason to use real $ for this when W$ can be bought cheaper. The instructions on the site are easy to follow. Get your 80 W$ in your account and you are ready to start.

7. Enter some "WSOP $16 Turbo Double Shootouts".

Pokerstars runs an insane amount of $16 double shootouts all day long. The turbo ones are the ones you probably want. They are listed in green (not blue, green). I think they start every 1/2 hour for most of the day. They are just like those turbo SNGs you were playing, but with a twist. You play 1 SNG in the first round and if and only if you win that one you play in another SNG with all the other winners of the first round in the final table.

8. Win one of them.

Assuming you have become good at SNGs you should be able to win the first table about 30% of the time. This will require a bit of strategy adjustment on your part. The only way to advance past the 1st table is to win it. You may have to take some risks you would not ordinarilly take, but you will still be playing against people who make a lot of mistakes. And you can take advatage of these here just like the regular SNGs. The 2nd table will be, in theory, composed of players better on average than the first. They still won't be very good. The prize structure is very slanted towards first so again you are playing to win. Keep playing smart until you are champion. If you lose all your W$ then go back to step 3.

9. Cashout of the satellite you won.

Congratulations, you won a seat in a $650 tournament. But you probably don't want to play in it. You should unregister for it and receive 650 W$. If you still have the tournament you won open, go to it's lobby. Click the tournament info button. There should be a link to the tournament you won entry to. Once there you can Unregister. Otherwise, if you can't find the tournament you won entry to, go to the main Pokerstars Lobby window. Select "Requests" from the top bar and select "Registered in Tournaments." You should be able to find your tournament from there and you can unregister.

10. Enter some $160 WSOP Double Shootouts.

You should now have at least enough W$ to enter 3 $160 Double Shootouts while retaining well over 150 W$ if needed to win another 650 W$. Unfortunately they don't run $160 Turbos so these take a long time. Prepare for each table to take 2 hours to complete, making it 4 hours total if you get to the end. This also means you will have to be much more patient than earlier. This will be good practice for the WSOP. You can pick up betting patterns with more time and many of these players will not be ready to be patient. If you play smart and get a little luck you can beat them. If you get down to where any more buyins will put you short of about 150 W$, I would use the W$ you have to enter the $16 tournaments to build up some more W$. They will also give you a bit more practice.

11. Win the $160 WSOP Double Shootout.

Congratulations, you played smart (I presume) and won a seat. See you at the WSOP.
